After an even first twenty minutes, Total Power Awakeri Rangers got ahead of
Edgecumbe in their 13th grade clash. Good goalkeeping by Lukas Langdon had kept
Edgecumbe at bay. Good passing gave Rangers plenty of possession and they went on
to win 3 - 1. Michael Greenwood took the corner kicks, which were all well placed
for the forwards to use. Player of the match Matthew Reeves had an excellent game
and scored twice, brother Hayden chipping in with the third.
The 13th grade Private Asset Management Awakeri Aces found themselves up against
a well drilled Kawerau team. To Aces credit they tried hard and were rewarded with
two late goals to Chris Stanton and Vincent Sheather. Ryan Church was named player
of the day for Aces. He never stopped trying, made some good tackles, and improves
with every game. The final score was 7 - 2 to Kawerau.
Awakeri Steelers built on their win in the 11th grade last week with a solid 1 - 1 draw
against James Street. Steelers had some good shots at goal and went ahead when
Brent Gurran put one in. Maddison Constantine led the defence well and was named
player of the match.
Da Silva Awakeri Autos scored a large win in the 10th grade against Whakatane
Sharks. Autos were in dominant form racing away to a big lead in the first half.
Matthew Orr-McKeown’s good positional play had him named player of the match.
Stephen Glassbrook, Keanu Carter, Sidney Jones and Jayden Haddock shared the
goals.
Also in the 10th grade Drain Tech Awakeri Diggers opposition didn’t turn up, so they
have claimed a win by default.
Awakeri Dragons put it all together in their 9th grade game against Hire A Hubby
James Street. Good work down the wings and then crossing the ball in worked well
for Dragons. Khyron Prout worked with excellent determination and earned the player
of the match award. Clive McIndoe was strong in defence and kept the ball flowing
forward, where Mark Morrison and Ben Fretwell shared the goals in an 8 - 0 win.
In the 8th grade, Awakeri Kingz had an even battle with Allandale, which fittingly
ended in a draw. Allandale got ahead, but a Luke Matchitt goal secured a 1 - 1 draw.
Blake Cossey had an outstanding game , coming back from injury, and was named
player of the match.
Awakeri Jets 7th grade played well against AIE Kawerau to gain a 2 - 0 victory.
Cameron Morrison scored both goals, but it was a great all round team effort. Jade
Hollis secured the player of the match trophy with his wonderful attacking game.
Players of The Edge Swim School Awakeri Bullets supported and backed each other
up resulting in an excellent team spirit in today’s 6th grade game against Thornton
Nemos. The whole team worked really hard, the players showing commitment and
maturity. Poppy Langley came on like a bullet and never stopped firing. She was
amazing with her determination and persistence. After a few near misses, Poppy
managed to score the only goal for the team. Thornton Nemos gave the Bullets a great
game.
Also in the 6th grade, Awakeri Tigers won their game against Ohope by default. They
did have a friendly kick around, in which Liam Sanson was player of the match.
In the 15th grade, Newcom Awakeri did well to hold the strong United team to 2 - 2
at half time. However United went on to win 5 - 2.
