Awakeri Soccer Club... the Greatest Junior Soccer Club in New Zealand
Report on game September 18th 1999.
Awakeri Store Stingers played their final 11th grade A division league game on Saturday, against champions Allandale. Stingers took the lead early in the game. After some good build-up, a Ray Paul pass found Mark Petersen inside the Allandale six yard box and he took the chance well. Allandale had much of the possession, but took a long time to even the game up. They eventually sneaked a late winner to take the game 2- 1.
For Stingers, centre back Jeremy Hawkes took the player of the match award with some good tackles and interceptions. Nicholas Haslam also had a tremendous game as right fullback. Lance Robison showed his usual amount of grit. After he suffered a nasty ankle injury, he took over in goal without complaint, despite being hardly able to walk.
