The end of the season is nigh for Awakeri's soccer teams. The
different grades come to an end over the next two weeks. As usual, most games
were close.
The exception to this was a comfortable win to Da Silva Awakeri Autos in the
13th grade premier division. Autos, despite missing several players, accounted
for James Street Rebels 6 - 1. James Holani kept the defence solid with some
strong headers and good distribution. Pete Dowden also excelled in the midfield.
Jayden Haddock and Robert Sonntag were the goal scorers for Autos.
In the 13th grade 1st division, Proactive Chairs Awakeri had a brilliant game
with Whakatane Rangers, with a vocal crowd supporting the teams. Rangers scored
an early goal in each half and try as Awakeri did, they couldn't put away the
equalisers. The Awakeri team shared player of the day honours, with Destrii
Prout, David Ernest and Rhys Cram in particularly good form.
In a close exciting close game, the 11th grade Private Asset Management Awakeri
Aces had a great 2 - 0 win over Whakatane Cheetahs in the premier division.
Leah Sheather found her goal scoring form to knock in both goals. Players of
the day for Aces were Zoe Johnston and Alex Christensen. This was a satisfying
way for Aces to finish their season.
Being evenly matched was certainly the story for the 11th grade 1st division
teams CJ McIndoe Awakeri Dragons and Whakatane Wolves. The game was in the balance
at 0 - 0 before two late Wolves goals brought them a 2 - 0 win. Clive McIndoe
set up good chances for Dragons with his work down the wing, and player of the
day David Klein Ovink came very close to scoring.
Whakatane Boosters put up a real challenge to Agritech Trailers Awakeri Knights
in the 9th grade 1st division. Knights won a tight game 2 - 1 with Daniel Reeves
player of the day for his excellent positional play. Toby Kirkpatrick, Sam McPherson
and Joshua Keightley all did very well too. Boosters worked hard in defence
to keep the Knights at bay and they had a couple of decent strikes at goal too.
In the 8th grade premier division Galatea Vets Awakeri Jets beat Otakiri 2 -
1. Hunger for the ball earned Caleb Carter player of the day. Nikoli Christensen
scored the goals for Jets, and Alec Hunt also had a good game.
Awakeri Tigers enjoyed their outing to Opotiki for a fast and furious 7th grade
game. It was a one all draw with James Thompson scoring for Tigers. Their player
of the day was Daniel Perkinson, who used his big kick well.
Total Power Services Awakeri Sharks had a good game against Whakatane Wasps
in the 7th grade. Sharks had a 4 - 1 win. Player of the day Samantha Looney
was enthusiastic and hard working.
Performance Zone Awakeri Blues enjoyed their 6th grade game against Paroa. The
final score was 3 - 2 to Paroa Jacob Davis got player of the day for his excellent
goal keeping. Jenna Wilson played very well and Taylor Harte got the Blues'
goals.

attacking skills resulted in their 3 - 1 win. Aroha Millar and Brayden Phillips
shared player of the match for Awakeri. Brayden had a fantastic game, scoring
the goal for Awakeri and Aroha was outstanding in the second half as goalie.
Jemma Sutton also did very well.
