Two match-ups between Awakeri teams were a feature of the club's games on Saturday.
Total Power Services Awakeri Sharks battled it out with Awakeri Tigers in the 7th grade. Sharks were pleased to grab a 1 - 0 win against the Tigers. Cameron Shakes earned player of match for Sharks by scoring the only goal. Tigers player of the match Joshua Ruiter took the ball up the field well. Daniel Perkinson showed out in defence, while James Thompson made some good saves in goal.
In the 6th grade, Performance Zone Awakeri Blues had only their youngest players available for their game with Agritech Trailers Awakeri Whites. The Blues tried hard and had fun, although Whites ran away with the game 5 - 0. The player of the match was Jessie Hollis.
In the 8th grade premier division, Galatea Vets Awakeri Jets were too strong for Opotiki Knights, winning 6 - 1. Nikoli Christensen had his scoring boots on, netting five times and earning player of the match. Caleb Carter grabbed the other one.
Proactive Chairs Awakeri were still positive and encouraging of each other despite going well behind at half time against Edgecumbe in the13th grade 1st division. A much better performance in positional play and passing held their opponents to one goal in the second half, with Edgecumbe taking the match 8 - 0. Destrii Prout's good passing brought him player of the match. Rhys Cram impressed in goal in the second half, as did winger David Ernest.
In the 13th grade premier division Da Silva Awakeri Autos fought back to 2 - 3 at Opotiki at half time and had their hosts rattled. However the home team converted their scoring chances in the second half and took the game 6 - 2, though the score doesn't reflect the even number of opportunities Autos created. Josh McIntyre ran hard on attack for Autos and was named player of the match. Jayden Haddock and Vincent Sheather were the scorers.
