Playing in new shirts inspired 6th grade Performance Zone Awakeri
Blues to their first win for two months on Saturday. Blues were at home to Saints
and came away with a 3 - 1 win. Players to impress were Keely Forbes, Jabob
Hannan and Quest Tipping.
Also in the 6th grade, Agritech Trailers Awakeri narrowly lost to Allandale
2 - 1. Jamie Findlay and Jack Du Toit shared player of the match. Jamie had
many valiant attempts at goal and Jack proved a formidable defence as goalie.
Sean Young scored Awakeri's goal.
Awakeri Tigers had a convincing win on Saturday, 3 - nil against Allandale in
the 7th grade. Tigers only had five players, so they were worn out by the end
of the game. The goals were scored by Tom Holani, player of the match Ronnie
Martens and Logan Wood. The latter pair were pleased to score their first goals
of the season.
Also in the 7th grade, Total Power Services Awakeri Sharks had an exciting game
with Saints. Cameron Shakes' enthusiasm brought him player of the match. Joey
Flanagan scored a good goal for Sharks in the 3 - 4 loss.
Galatea Vets Awakeri Jets finished their 8th grade premier division season in
style, with a 2 - 1 win over Saints. It was a hard fought game, with TJ Penberth
having to make some good saves in goal to keep Saints out. Defender Shane Hope
and the energetic Tiaan Brownless also shone. Nikoli Christensen has scored
over twenty goals this season and duly put away these two.
In the 9th grade 1st division, Agritech Trailers Awakeri Knights dominated most
of their game against Paroa, but were kept out by some fantastic goalkeeping.
The Knights players combined well, creating lots of opportunities.
A slow first half by Da Silva Awakeri Autos had them down 1 - nil at half time
against Ohope in the 13th grade premier division. A burst of energy saw them
start to perform in the second half. Autos put in an amazing fifteen shots at
Ohope's goal, but only scored. The ball hit the woodwork more than once, and
many shots just slid past the uprights. Ohope scored again, with the final result
2 - 1. Autos player of the match went to Sam Schuler, and Vincent Sheather scored
Awakeri's only goal.
With only the youngest grades playing this coming Saturday, the rest of the
club will look forward to the break-up on Sunday, starting at 10am.
