More wins than losses was the score-sheet for Awakeri's soccer teams as they went back into action after the holiday break.
Proactive Chairs Awa-Edge were lethargic after their break and couldn't foot it with James Street in the 15th grade. Player of the day Gareth Rowlands was one of the few to play to his best. James Street won easily.
In the 13th grade, Private Asset Management Awakeri Aces had a good even game with Saints. Aces reversed the result of their last meeting, coming away with a 3 - 0 win. Two goals from Jayden Haddock and a beauty from Guy Kamphorst brought the win. Positive encouragement to his team-mates earned Matthew Orr-McKeown player of the day.
With the scores locked at 1-1 at half time, the 13th grade Awakeri Dragons
were looking good in their game against Kawerau. Unfortunately some lapses of concentration in the second half let Kawerau score three quick goals. Player of the day for Dragons was Jared Butler, who made some excellent tackles. Ben Fretwell
was the scorer with a well struck penalty. Others to play well were Caleb Sheather and Mikaela Hancox.
In the 11th grade premier division Awakeri Macattacks and Allandale Aces had an evenly fought 0 - 0 draw. An excellent late save by the player of the day Richard Hikipene, Awakeri's keeper, kept Aces out.
Jim's Saddlery Awakeri Knights put together some great football in their 11th grade win against Whakatane Eagles. Samuel Burgess produced some outstanding football to be named player of the day. Sam McPherson (4) and David Klein-Ovink scored the goals in a 5 - 2 win. Cameron Morrison also impressed in his turn in goal.
Awakeri Jets were short of players for their 9th grade game against Kawerau. Alec Hunt was player of the day and TJ Penberth did well in goal. Kawerau took the game 1 - 0.
In the 8th grade premier division, Awakeri Tigers used good passing to control their game against Saints. Christian Mattock-Prince scored one of the five goals and was named player of the day. Liam Sanson, Tom Holani, Tom Fretwell and Lucas Schlepers also knocked in goals in a 5 - 0 win.
Good team-work set the scene for a 3 - 0 win to Awakeri Sharks in their 8th grade game against Whakatane Panthers. Bleyne Hebberly was their player of the day.
In the 7th grade Galatea Vets Awakeri Jets had a good hard game with Thornton. Lets did a lot of attacking but Thornton defended well. Player of the day Christian Van der Gulik and Jack du Toit were in top form. The game ended at 1 - 1.
Performance Zone Awakeri Blues had a good 3 - 0 win against James Street in the 7th grade. Hayley Calder was player of the day. Highlights included Keely Forbes' first ever goal and a huge Taylor Harte header. Justin Perkins and Joshua Shakes also scored goals.
Awakeri Rovers lost 1 - 5 to Whakatane Marlins in the 6th grade. Cody Baker-Bragg was Rovers' player of the day.
Also in the 6th grade, Awakeri Rockets did well against Rangitaiki Raiders, winning 3 - 0. Tommy Rosewarne was player of the day and Te Manu Herrick showed some good skills for Rockets.
