More wins than losses was the score-sheet for Awakeri's soccer teams
as they went back into action after the holiday break.
Proactive Chairs Awa-Edge were lethargic after their break and couldn't foot
it with James Street in the 15th grade. Player of the day Gareth Rowlands was
one of the few to play to his best. James Street won easily.
In the 13th grade, Private Asset Management Awakeri Aces had a good even game
with Saints. Aces reversed the result of their last meeting, coming away with
a 3 - 0 win. Two goals from Jayden Haddock and a beauty from Guy Kamphorst brought
the win. Positive encouragement to his team-mates earned Matthew Orr-McKeown
player of the day.
With the scores locked at 1-1 at half time, the 13th grade Awakeri Dragons
were looking good in their game against Kawerau. Unfortunately some lapses of
concentration in the second half let Kawerau score three quick goals. Player
of the day for Dragons was Jared Butler, who made some excellent tackles. Ben
Fretwell
was the scorer with a well struck penalty. Others to play well were Caleb Sheather
and Mikaela Hancox.
In the 11th grade premier division Awakeri Macattacks and Allandale Aces had
an evenly fought 0 - 0 draw. An excellent late save by the player of the day
Richard Hikipene, Awakeri's keeper, kept Aces out.
Jim's Saddlery Awakeri Knights put together some great football in their 11th
grade win against Whakatane Eagles. Samuel Burgess produced some outstanding
football to be named player of the day. Sam McPherson (4) and David Klein-Ovink
scored the goals in a 5 - 2 win. Cameron Morrison also impressed in his turn
in goal.
Awakeri Jets were short of players for their 9th grade game against Kawerau.
Alec Hunt was player of the day and TJ Penberth did well in goal. Kawerau took
the game 1 - 0.
In the 8th grade premier division, Awakeri Tigers used good passing to control
their game against Saints. Christian Mattock-Prince scored one of the five goals
and was named player of the day. Liam Sanson, Tom Holani, Tom Fretwell and Lucas
Schlepers also knocked in goals in a 5 - 0 win.

grade game against Whakatane Panthers. Bleyne Hebberly was their player of the
day.
In the 7th grade Galatea Vets Awakeri Jets had a good hard game with Thornton.
Lets did a lot of attacking but Thornton defended well. Player of the day Christian
Van der Gulik and Jack du Toit were in top form. The game ended at 1 - 1.
Performance Zone Awakeri Blues had a good 3 - 0 win against James Street in
the 7th grade. Hayley Calder was player of the day. Highlights included Keely
Forbes' first ever goal and a huge Taylor Harte header. Justin Perkins and Joshua
Shakes also scored goals.

was Rovers' player of the day.

winning 3 - 0. Tommy Rosewarne was player of the day and Te Manu Herrick showed
some good skills for Rockets.
