It's taken all season, but 6th grade Awakeri T-Rexes finally found out what winning felt like on Saturday. T-Rexes beat Otakiri Pukekos 1 - 0, with Matthew Webb the scorer. Zoe Bennett was named player of the day in an enthusiastic team performance.
A keen Awakeri Rovers side played well in their 6th grade match against Thornton. Against the run of play, Thornton managed to scramble a first half goal. Ollie Clements replaced Callum Salmons in goal for the second half. His good second half saves kept Rovers in the game. Jacob Davis continued to be dominant in the second half and his efforts were matched by player of the day Cody Baker- Bragg, who worked hard throughout the game. Rovers were unable to recover the first half goal, and ran in at the final whistle 0 - 1 down.
Awakeri Rockets and Allandale Eagles turned on some end-to-end action in their 6th grade game. Liam McCormick was player of the day and Tommy Rosewarne had another good game on defence. The final score was 0 - 0.
Performance Zone Awakeri Blues had a good 7th grade game against Whakatane Scorpions, and came away with a 4 - 1 win. Quest Tipping got player of the day for his over-all consistent play and Hayley Calder was congratulated for her first goal.
Also in the 7th grade, Galatea Vets Awakeri White Pointers came up against a good Saints team. Player of the day Braydon Phillips defended bravely. Saints won the game 5 - 0.
Awakeri Tigers had a good hard game against Saints in the 8th grade premier division. The players took responsibility well and came away with a 2 - 0 win, thanks to goals from Liam Sanson and Tom Holani.
In the 8th grade 1st division, Awakeri Sharks had an awesome game against Paroa Pakeke. They eventually lost 4 - 3. Jalen Heberly earned player of the day for his hard work throughout the game. Dillon Murray also had an excellent game for the Sharks.
Awakeri Jets had a tough 9th grade premier game against Kawerau, who won 4 - 0. Defender Shane Hope was named player of the day. Alec Hunt also had a good game in goal.
Excellent goalkeeping by Richard Hikipene earned him player of the day and his team, Awakeri Macattacks, a 0 - 0 draw with Allandale in the 11th grade premier division. Macattacks put together some useful attacks, but couldn't finish one of them off.
In the 11th grade 1st division, Jim's Saddlery Awakeri Knights had a 0 - 2 loss to Ohope. Player of the day Matthew Eveleens took the ball up the wing well. Carrie Fynn and Brooke Theobald did well in defence as well.
A poor first half against Saints cost CJ McIndoe Awakeri Dragons dearly in the 13th grade. In a better second half, Ben Fretwell (2) and Ethan Kilgarriff scored to make it an interesting battle. Fretwell and Miles Saitta shared player of the day.
Proactive Chairs Awa-Edge had a good last outing against James Street in the 15th grade. James Street played some good one-touch football to eventually take the game 7 - 0. Jacob Gregory was Awa-Edge's player of the day, and Madison Constantine created several chances to score.
