Private Asset Management Awakeri Aces ended their season on a high, causing
Kerry Nott's Opotiki to drop their first points of the season in the 13th grade.
A late Jaiden Ibbetson goal grabbed Aces a 2 - 2 draw. Ibbetson and fellow goal
scorer Jayden Haddock shared the player of the day homours.
A wonderful spring morning provided the platform for 6th grade Awakeri Rovers
to return one of their best games of the season. From the kick-off Saints Girls
were quickly into their stride and they scored a well earned goal in the first
quarter of the game. The goal triggered a positive response from Rovers and
just before half time Jacob Davis scored an excellent goal following a solo
run from the half way line.
Goalkeeper Cody Baker-Bragg moved into a higher gear in the second half - several
good saves kept his side in contention. Player of the day Lachlan Butler was
linking well with Jacob Davis in the second half and the ball broke free within
Saint's half. Davis quickly latched on to the ball and scored his second goal.
Saints Girls fought hard into the last quarter of the game, but a resolute Rovers
defence ensured that a well earned win was returned at the final whistle: Rovers
2: Saints 1
The Awakeri 7th grade Galatea Vets White Pointers had a tough but fun game against
Thornton. Thornton won 2 - 0. This was their last game for the season, so the
players shared player of the day. White Pointers enjoyed lots of support throughout
the season.
Also in the 7th grade, Performance Zone Awakeri Blues had a very good last game,
against James Street Stormers. Quest Tipping was in top form and helped his
team to a 5 - 2 win.
Awakeri Sharks had an awesome last 8th grade game for the season against Thornton.
They came away with a 1 - 0 win. The whole team tried as hard as they could
to keep the pressure on Thornton to make a mistake, which came at the end of
the game. The player of the day went to Karaitiana Taipeti, who stood out from
the others for working hard and not giving up. Jared Turvey also had a good
game, scoring the goal with a good shot.
Jim's Saddlery Awakeri Knights used very good passing to beat Otakiri 4 - 0
in the 11th grade 1st division. Chris Walker scored a great goal, with Kurt
Turpie and Cameron Morrison the other scorers. The hard working Ben Murphy was
player of the day.
Knights still have two more games to go, while Awakeri's other teams just wait
for the club break-up on September 22nd.
