A wide ranging collection of results for Awakeri teams on their first proper outings.
The 15th grade had a huge win against Rotorua City Athenians. Matt Reeves bagged 5 goals to earn player of the day, ahead of Lindsey Cotter 4, Maddison Constantine 3, James Holani 1, Pete Dowden 1, Matthew Orr-McKeown, 1, and Rhys Cram 1.
13th grade CJ McIndoe Builders Awakeri Dragons had a 10 - 0 loss against Ohope Storm. Brylee Bramley was player of the day.
13th grade The Wrangler Awakeri Aces lost 3 - 0 to Allandale Phoenix, with keeper Rory MacGregor player of the day for keeping out a lot of shots.
11th grade AB Contracting Awakeri Jets lost 5 - 0 to MCE Whakatane Gunners, with Caleb Robertshaw player of the day.
11th grade Awakeri Knights beat Rangitaiki Blue Devils 2 - 1.
9th grade teams Veronica Hall's Wildhogs and Columbus Cafe Bulldogs fought out a 1 - 1 draw.
Tiopira Geerlings scored the equalizing goal for Wildhogs. Nicole Theobald was their player of the day. All Wildhogs put in a top effort, says coach Esther Geerlings.
8th grade Performance Zone Awakeri Rangers lost 1- - 0 to Opotiki Hurricanes, with Quest Tipping player of the day.
8th grade Awakeri Mosquitoes lost 5 - 1 to Whakatane Rogues. Here's LJ's report:
The 8th Grade Awakeri Mosquitos had a hard game first up, against a talented Whakatane Rogues Team, Mosquitos never gave up but finally went down 5-1. Player of the day went to Sophia Vander Gulik for her strong defence. The Mosquitos only goal was scored by Jamie Findlay who played a good all round game.

AWAKERI ROVERS v Da SILVA AWAKERI AUTOS - 7th GRADE
A local derby - glorious sunshine - a great start to the 2008 Season for Rovers.
Equally matched sides fought hard during the first half. The deadlock was broken by a well taken goal by Cody Baker-Bragg. Da Silva responded very quickly with a superb goal, which left goalkeeper Mathew Webb with no chance. In the last few minutes of the first half, Rovers took the game to Da Silva and Jacob Davis scored, to give Rovers a 2-1 lead at half time.
Mikayla Binney-Cox took over in goal for the second half. Early pressure from Da Silva earned them a second goal: 2-2. A ding dong battle ensued throughout the second half: Mikayla made a fine save to keep her side in the hunt. Final score 2:2: a good performance by both teams.
Player of the day was Jacob Hannan, who worked hard in attack and was robust in defence.

6th grade Hi Way Tyres Awakeri Young Guns lost to Awakeri Rascals 3 - 0. Noah Parkes was YG's player of the day.
6th grade Awakeri T Rexes lost to Whakatane Black Demons 4 - 1. Emily Julian scored, while Ella Strachan was player of the day.
