Murphy Brothers Awakeri Avatars had a close 13th grade game with Whakatane Phoenix. Sam McPherson got Avatars going with an early goal, but Phoenix came back to take the game 2 - 1. Caleb Robertshaw's hard work around the field saw him named player of the day. Daniel Reeves was also excellent in defence.
Energyscan Awakeri Wildhogs were still in holiday mode for their 11th grade premier division game with Whakatane Iti Ma. Iti Ma had a comfortable victory, despite the good play of Jared Turvey on the Wildhogs' left wing.
In the 11th grade 1st division, Janice Hendl & Associates Awakeri Hawks had a good game against Ohope and were unlucky to lose 1 - 0. Ohope scored the only goal with in the first two minutes. Hawks had many shots at the goal but had trouble finding the back of the net. Kara Sanson earned player of the day by working hard in the midfield and getting the ball up to the forwards. Aaron Fretwell also had a very good game, taking most of the shots at goal.
In the 9th grade premier division, Performance Zone Awakeri Sharks had a very good game with Whakatane Magpies, which ended in a 3 - 3 draw. Sharks had the lead for most of the game, but Magpies scored two late goals to grab the draw. Quest Tipping scored two and player of the day PJ Bolton one.
Awakeri Mosquitoes lost their 9th grade premier match to Whakatane Tricky Chicks 4 - 1. The player of the day was Justin Perkins. Shannon Frost was strong in goal and Hayley Calder defended well for Mosquitoes.
Te Teko Taniwha did not have enough players for a proper game with Da Silva Autos Awakeri Dragons in the 8th grade premier division, but everyone enjoyed the friendly game that was played.
A good first half had Awakeri Aces and Ohope Shamrocks locked at 1 - 1 in the 8th grade 1st division. Ohope dominated a rather physical second half to eventually win 9 - 1. Finn Spod got player of the day for his excellent support play. Sarah Sheaff was the scorer for Aces.
There was an exciting match between Awakeri's two 7th grade teams. HTL Spreading Awakeri Midgets took the lead in the first half against Awakeri Incredibles. In the second half Tylar Hall scored his second for Midgets and Robbie Perkinson scored for Incredibles. Both scorers were players of the day, with the teams enjoying playing their school mates.
Awakeri Fliers lost their 6th grade game against Whakatane Flyers. The Awakeri player of the day was Liam White, who played in goal for the first half and defended well in the second half.
Also in the 6th grade, Awakeri Warriors had a good game with Ohope Dolphins. Tayla Jones was Warriors' player of the day. Logan Calder and Emma Hannan also did well. Dolphins won the game 3 - 0.
Bay Milking Equipment Awakeri T-Rexes had another good game in the junior girls' league, building on their basic soccer skills like passing, running into space, calling for the ball, not bunching. The player of the day was Zoe Bennett who scored her first ever goal and has shown a lot of improvement this year. Emily Julian scored the other goal giving in a 2 - 0 win against Te Teko Piwaiwaka. Jenae Brownless played well, working hard for the ball and putting long passes in downfield for Renske Brabant, who was always looking for a fast break and had plenty of great chances at a goal.
