Lots of fun is the recurring theme for Awakeri's younger football teams when they play in the Junior Framework at Warren Park each Saturday.
The 6th grade players of the day were: Sophie Growden, who played hard for Awakeri Rascals, Sophie Spod (Awakeri Tigers) and Hannah White (Awakeri Lions).
7th grade Kiwi Waste Awakeri Magic had a great day at Junior Framework too. They had a small sided game with Ohope Sharks. Both teams scored goals and attacked and defended well. Magic's player of the day was Addison Dodson.
7th grade Awakeri Alligator's player of the day was Phoebe Carter. She is showing excellent ball skills.
In the 8th grade, Awakeri Dragons had a comfortable win against Thornton Mighty Midgets. Bailey Anderson-Ingoe was player of the day.
R. Mahy Contracting Awakeri Warriors secured another win in the 8th grade, this time against Opotiki Cheetahs 7 - 1. Jamie Julian, Blake Hermansen, Kalib Schuler, Frank Butler and Bonnie-Marie Wetting-Davidson all scored. Katie Mahy was awarded player of the day.
Da Silva Autos Awakeri Strikers had a good day in the 9th grade, beating Ohope Diamonds 7 - 2. Kaleb Muggeridge put in some great crosses, setting up several goals and he scored twice himself to take player of the day honours. Maya Wills continues to improve well. The other scorers were Matthew Reihana-Asquith (2), Cambell Julian (2) and Kaedyn Portsmouth.
Private Asset Management Awakeri Comets had a tough home game against Kawerau Crusaders in the 11th Grade Premier Division. Awakeri began really well applying most of the pressure, but Kawerau defended strongly and took their chances well to have a good lead by half-time. Comets had the perfect start to the second half, when Kevin Paulsen scored a great individual goal straight from kick-off but Kawerau responded almost immediately with their own skilful goals. They finished up 7 - 1 winners. Awakeri's player of the day was Liam McCormack.
In the 11th grade 1st division, Barringtons Motor Lodge Awakeri Wild Cats were too strong for Thornton Phoenix. Emily Julian, Taryn Forbes, Linette Lengkeek and Sam Marks were the goal scorers. Caroline Paulsen made a big contribution and was named player of the day.
HTL Spreading Awakeri Lightning lost to Kawerau Taniwha in the 11th grade 1st division. They trailed 6 - 0 at half time. The second half was better though. Goalie for the first half was Corisa Johnston and for the second it was Sarah Sheaff. The player of the day was Rylee Looney for competing hard with the boys.
13th grade Insitu Heritage Awakeri Sharks took too long to get into gear against the strong Whakatane Town Surfers team, who went on to win comfortably. Finn Spod impressed for Sharks, and came close to scoring with a shot well saved. Elana Spod and Manjot Farrar did well in defence, while player of the day Lucille Smits made some good runs up the wing.
