Awakeri's youngest players continue to flourish with their junior framework football at Warren Park each Saturday.
6th grade Awakeri Magic did very well. There were lots of goal scorers, including Ollie Peat, Jade Mahy and Aaron Best and many more. Lots of skills were used in the games, e.g. passing and spreading out. Player of the day was shared between Sophia Tane, Jade Mahy and Zeana Van Beek.
Awakeri Athletic continue their 6th grade season undefeated! There were some great goals scored by Jacson Heal, Arran Dominick and Kyle Hennessy-McKay. The three games they played were won 3-0, 2-0 and 3-0.
Shed Boss Awakeri Phoenix played Dolphins in the 6th grade. Phoenix won 5 -0, with Tyler Wardlaw scoring four of the five goals and Alex Whiteman scoring one goal. Their next game was a 1 – 0 win against Starfish, with Alex Whiteman scoring the winning goal. In their last game Phoenix played Ohope, who won 1 -0. Tyler Wardlaw was player of the day. Though he wasn't feeling well, he still managed to score four goals, his first for the season!
Awakeri Panthers had some awesome games in the 7th grade. They won, drew and lost! Fantastic defensive skills were shown by all the girls, particularly Charlize Butler who was player of the day. Rhianna Rowe scored two goals and Asha van Veen scored one.
7th grade Real Awakeri continue to play well and are unbeaten so far this season. They had two players of the day this week: Julien Horn-Christensen and Koby Kay.
Eastern Bay Curtains 4U Awakeri Ninjas had another good win in the 8th grade. Ninjas beat Plains Superstars comfortably at Edgecumbe. Brad Yuill was player of the day. Ninjas had worked on first touch striking of the ball at practice. Brad did it beautifully in the game, striking a moving ball from quite far out, scoring a great goal.
Awakeri Avengers beat Kawerau comfortably in the 8th grade. It was a great game. Kobi Wetting-Davidson scored eight goals, with Sophie Growden bagging the other two. Player of the day was Chase Read, he was outstanding in the midfield!
The 9th grade EBOP Plant Services Awakeri Aces had a great game against Saints Tigers on Saturday. Some coaching from practice around roughly being in positions, spreading out and not bunching went a long way. Aces were utilising their team members well and passing the ball. Everyone's play improved. Addison Dodson received player of the day for her awesome attacking skill and shooting two of the goals. The final score was 5 - 0 to Aces.
SLH Contracting Awakeri Warriors had to come from behind to win 2 - 1 against the Ohope Strikers in the 11th grade 1st division. The Warriors' goals were scored by Kaleb Muggeridge & Kalib Schuler. The player of the day was defender Matthew Reihana-Asquith. Keegan Jones and Elijah Wetting-Davidson also played very well.
The Designline Kitchens Awakeri Dragons played Opotoki Panthers in the 11th grade 3rd division. It was a good contest with the Panthers scoring in the last five minutes. The Dragons had more possession and had some good shots on goal but they couldn't quite convert. The player of the day went to Jack Elliot, who showed great skill and went close to scoring a number of times.
Awakeri Blue Strikers played Private Asset Management Awakeri Comets in a tough 13th grade game. Blue Strikers fought hard and had a few shots at goal, but Comets were too strong. Rylee Looney had another great game in defence, with Katie Mahy having an awesome game as goalie, both were named player of the day. Comets had a great start to the game, opening the scoring within the first few minutes. Ben White, Emily Robbie, Ethan Patterson and Campbell Kelly, all scored their first goals of the season in the eventual 6 - 0 win. Ben White was named player of the day for his constant running.
