Awakeri's 8th grade teams had the best results for the club on Saturday.
Awakeri Avengers had a great 8-2 win against Saints Stingers. Some dynamic passing and solid team work were features of their performance. Kobi Wetting-Davidson was player of the day.
There were also plenty of goals in Eastern Bay Curtains 4U Awakeri Ninjas 8th grade game with Kawerau Sports. Cody Parson was the player of the day for Ninjas in their 8 – 3 win.
9th grade Awakeri Titans went down to Opotiki Magpies 6 - 0. It was an excellent game to watch and all the players gave their all and came off with smiles on their faces. Unfortunately the ball wouldn't go in the goal for Titans, despite plenty of loud support from the sideline. A special mention to Jade Maloney for her game, but player of the day went to Paige Toone for a gutsy performance.
There was some excellent play by the EBOP Plant Services Awakeri Aces against a tough 9th grade Kawerau team, who won 4 – 1. Aces had no reserves, so the players were kept very busy. Ollie Fort received player of the day for great commitment to the ball.
In the 11th grade, Designline Kitchens Awakeri Dragons lost 3 – 1 to Saints Dragons. The Awakeri team created plenty of opportunities, with Mia Sutton finishing one of them, but Saints finished theirs better. Oscar Mahy was the Awakeri player of the day.
SLH Contracting Awakeri Warriors won 6 - 0 against the Opotiki Magpies in the 11th grade. Goals were scored by Kaleb Muggeridge, Jamie Julian, Thomas Wessels, Cambell Julian and Elijah Wetting-Davidson. Special mention goes to Fearghus Byers for a good all round game. The player of the day was Iziah Carter who had a great game in a new position.
In the 13th grade, Awakeri Blue Strikers played Saint Storm, losing 6 - 0. Awakeri were down on numbers, so thanks to those younger players who stepped up to help out. Lily du Toit was named player of the day for her perseverance and strong defence throughout the whole game.
Private Asset Management 13th grade Awakeri Comets were at home to Whakatane Force. The game was very even for most of the first half, until Whakatane scored a good long range goal and followed it with a second before half-time. Force added two more goals in the second half and could have had a lot more but for some good work by the Comets defence. Luella Howe battled for everything and was named player of the day in Whakatane's 4 - 0 win.
The younger grades enjoyed their junior frame work once more. Awakeri Athletic 6th grade remain undefeated after 9 games of football. Saturday's results were 0-0, 5-0, 2-0. Some of the goal scorers on the day were Kyle Hennessey-McKay, Arran Dominick, Aramia Hanlen and Jacson Heal. The team is showing great determination and enthusiasm.
Shed Boss Awakeri Phoenix 6th grade played Kawerau winning 2-1. Alex Whiteman scored two goals. They then played Saints Stars and won 2-1 with Max Schlepers and Alex Whiteman scoring one goal each. In their final game against Allandale we lost 1-0. Our player of the day today went to Addison Griffiths for perseverance throughout the three games. She looks to pass to her team mates and is constantly attacking the ball.
6th grade Awakeri Magic all played well. The player of the day went to Jade Mahy for a wicked goal.
7th grade Awakeri Panthers had two draws and a win. Rhianna Rowe was the player of the day with fantastic attacking skills. The girls are improving every week!
