Awakeri 13th Grade Private Asset Management Comets had their best performance of the season away to Opotiki Scorpions. Awakeri started well with a goal from Ethan Patterson after some good work from Kevin Paulsen. Further goals were added by Tom Kloppenburg and Kevin Paulsen, and these three shared all the goalscoring to complete a 6-0 victory. The team work and effort from the whole side was outstanding and there were several players who could have been named player of the day, but certificates went to Kevin Paulsen and Tom Kloppenburg, for great positional play as well as their goal-scoring feats. Tayla Jones and Campbell Kelly were also in top form.
13th grade Awakeri Blue Strikers fought another hard game, losing 6-0 to Whakatane Town Force. Once again Kyla McGuire was awesome as goalie. Shellan Keighley worked hard on the wing earning player of the day.
The SLH Contracting Awakeri Warriors had a great away tussle with the Whakatane Flames in the 11th grade 1st division. The Warriors scored first with a Jamie Julian and Fearghus Byers combined effort. The Flames equalised just before half time. Frank Butler's defence came in to play by clearing a certain goal in the second half. The game was finally drawn at 1-1. The Warriors' player of the day was Elijah Wetting-Davidson for his impressive display of attacking skills in the first half and keeping a clean sheet in goal in the second stanza by saving several goal attempts.
Also in the 11th grade, Designline Kitchens Awakeri Dragons went down against Ohope 5-1. Dragons' only goal was scored by Keighly McNeil. Dragons put in a great defensive effort, with player of the day the much improved Sasha Burr.
9th grade EBOP Plant Services Awakeri Aces lost 3 - 5 to Ohope. Addison Dodson got player of the day for great defence skills as goalie. Strong play in the first half, a challenging second half.
The 8th grade match-up between Eastern Bay Curtains 4U Awakeri Ninjas Awakeri Avengers had to be called off at half time, due to rain. Ninjas were all playing well to have a 7-1 lead and their player of the day was Cody Parsons. Avengers' player of the day was Jessie Jones for an awesome run on the wing, and netting their only goal.
In the 6th grade, Awakeri Phoenix played Plains Panthers in our first game. Plains Panthers won 2 nil. Awakeri Athletic was again a competitive game with a one all draw. Tyler Wardlaw was our only goal scorer in this game. Our last game was against Saints Sparks we won four nil. Our goal scorers were Alex Whiteman two goals, Tyler Wardlaw one goal and Addison Griffiths getting her first goal of the season. Player of the day went to Tyler Wardlaw for having a great attacking game.
Awakeri Athletic continued their unbeaten run in the 6th grade, after drawing twice and winning their third game very convincingly. Goals on the day came from Arran Dominick, Jacson Heal, Kyle Hennessy-McKay and Aramia Hanlen. Player of the day went to Aramia Hanlen for displaying great skills during all three games.
