Private Asset Management Awakeri Comets were away to Whakatane Intermediate Foxy Feet girls in the 13th grade. Awakeri had a slow start, and went behind to a well taken goal, before Cambell Julian and Ben Davey-Emms put the Comets in front. One of the players of the day, Tiare Butler added to the lead before half time. In the second half, Foxy Feet pulled a goal back, but Awakeri responded with Ben Davey-Emms scoring three more excellent goals and Tiare Butler following up well to get his second, to complete a good 7-2 victory. Ben White was superb in defence, and passed well all game to earn the second player of the day award.
SLH Contracting Awakeri Warriors played Opotiki Panthers at home in the 11th grade 1st division. The first half was an even affair with the half time score 0-0. In the second half the Lucian Bain scored first for the Warriors. Opotiki answered straight away to level it at 1-1. Then Awakeri scored some great goals. Sam East got two. There was a big foot smash goal from 25 metres by
Katie Mahy and a final goal to Bradley Burr finished the game at 5-1 to the Warriors. All round splendid play, including a bicycle kick in mid field, gave Ollie Fort the player of the day award.
In the 11th grade 2nd division EBOP Plant Services Awakeri Mud Dawgs had a tough day against Opotiki Magpies, going down 6 – 0.
The Eastern Bay Curtains 4U Awakeri Ninjas had a 6 – 0 win against Saint Joseph's in the 9th grade. Cody Parsons was player of the day, playing with plenty of energy and doing some great controlled headers.
Also in the 9th grade, Awakeri Aces had a 2-1 win against Whakatane Town Hawks, with great some soccer being played! There were impressive saves in goal by Lilly Muggeridge and Michael Seales. Kobi Wetting-Davidson teamed up well with Max Thompson at the back. Jon Tiwha-Smith once again made some great passes opening up the space. Ashlee Jennings and Sophie Growden were impressive in their confidence. Michael Griffiths continued to build. Player of the day went to Kaleb Grindrod for his impressive work rate and positional play. The goal scorers were Jon and Kobi.
In the 8th grade, the Awakeri Avengers won 4-1 against the Plains Panthers. Ryan Ashton was player of the day for excellent defence and involvement in the game; he also scored a great goal. The other goals were scored by: Patrick Jones, Tejay Robinson and Ryan Somerville.
Awakeri Panthers all girls team played against the Saints Swords in the 8th grade and lost 4-1. Panthers were stoked to score, courtesy of Paige Short's fantastic goal. Rhiane Byers was the player of the day with very good teamwork and footwork.
Awakeri Magic 7th grade results: Game 1 vs Poroporo Pahou 1 nil to Poroporo; Game 2 vs Awakeri Phoenix 2 - 1 to Magic. Their player of the day was Kyle Hennessy-Mckay.
Also in the 7th grade, Awakeri Phoenix played Allandale midgets, winning 5-0. Alex Whiteman scored four goals and Tyler Wardlaw the other one. In their next game Phoenix played Awakeri Magic, losing 2 - 1. Alex Whiteman scored the goal. Brilliant defence by Tyler Wardlaw. In their last game they played Saints Stars, who won 2 - 0. Player of the day went to Alex Whiteman for great goal scoring!
In the 6th grade, Awakeri Rangers first game was against Pukekos. Once both teams warmed up a good game was played out. Rangers won 2-0 due to good defending from Ava Macdonald and Wilson Carter. Saints won the second game 2-1. Blake Murray snuck a great shot in from a tight angle, helped by some good support from Innes Tootell and Billy Butterworth. It was 2-1 again in the derby clash, with Awakeri Athletic proving too strong on attack. However Rangers skill level and teamwork are strengthening every week. Liv Brownlee made some courageous tackles and Addie Tetze showed great speed with the ball. Wilson Carter was player of the day, and the goal scorers were Billy (2) and Blake (2).
Awakeri Athletic grade 6 opened with a very tough game which ended in a 5-0 loss but the effort and determination displayed up to the final whistle was fantastic. Game 2 allowed Addison Neil to get on the score sheet again this week and secured Athletic's first win for the day at 1-0. Game 3 was another tough battle with Athletic going down 1-0 quickly, but they fought well to get back into things. Jacson Heal managed to get on the score sheet before full-time, with the game finishing at 1-1.The player of the day was Ella Brown for fantastic tackling and working hard to regain possession for her team.
Also in the 6th grade, Awakeri Mustangs won all three of their games again easily. Fergus Rowe, Jayden Grindrod and Jayden Mathews scored the goals. Kimberly Seales got player of the day.
