Muddy ground conditions led to some games being postponed on Saturday, but some Awakeri teams were lucky enough to play.
In the 11th grade 1st division SLH Contracting Awakeri Warriors had their first loss of the season, away to Whakatane Town G Force. Warriors had a cold start in their first game back after the holidays, but they came back strongly from being 2 -0 down at half time. Ollie Fort scored with a cracking long range shot to make it 2 – 1. However, in going forward for the equaliser, they gave away a third. G Force were deserved winners. Oscar Mahy was great at right half, but Bonnie Marie Wetting-Davidson was player of the day with a full game of going hard!
In the 9th grade Eastern Bay Curtains 4U Awakeri Ninjas won 6 - 0 against Allandale. Lucien Horn-Christensen was the player of the day, after scoring a hat trick.

Their second game was against Ohope Piranhas. Phoenix won 1 - 0 with Alex Whiteman the scorer. Natalie Carter had a great game and was centimetres off scoring her first goal for the season which was very disappointing! Their last game of the day was against Kawerau Sports Avengers, who won 1 - 0. The player of the day went to Aaron Dominick for brilliant attacking and defence throughout all the three games. It was also a great team effort by Isla Fergusson, Max Schlepers, Natalie and Aaran.
Awakeri Magic also played three games in the 7th grade: Poroporo Pahou, a 2 – 0 loss; Ohope Orcas, a 0 - 0 draw and Ohope Piranha, a 1 - 1 draw.
Awakeri Mustangs had muddy games in the 6th grade. Their player of the day was Riaan Skipps.
6th grade Awakeri Rangers had a couple of hard games. Blake Murray scored their only goal in the first game. The player of the day was Ava Macdonald.
Awakeri Athletic Grade 6 hit the ground running after the school holidays and bagged themselves three solid victories. In game one, Awakeri went down 1 - 0 but a hat-trick from Joshua Spalding and one from Ryan Cobb ensured a 4 - 1 win. Addison Neill made a phenomenal contribution too. Game two ended 5 - 0 with Addison Neill added to the goal scoring mix. Game three was a much tighter competition but Awakeri Athletic still managed to squeeze two goals past their opposition. A good team performance was matched with great attacking and defensive play. Player of the day went to Ryan Cobb for his eye for goals and his strong contribution to the team.
