Many Awakeri teams had their last games of football for the season on Saturday.
In the 13th grade, Private Asset Management Awakeri Comets were away to St Joseph's Shooters. Awakeri got off to a quick start with a goal from Cody Cook in the first five minutes. Ben Davey-Emms scored a goal either side of half-time, before Tiare Butler hit an excellent volley with the last kick of the game for Comets to finish the season with a 4-0 win. Some superb defensive work earned Inder Aujla the player of the day award.
SLH Contracting's 11th grade Awakeri Warriors had a convincing win at home against the Whakatane G Force 3-0. Elijah Wetting-Davidson scored twice and Frank Butler scored, smashing a ball into the top of the goal. The player of the day was birthday boy, Frank Butler. Kaia Skipps and Isak Tootell also impressed. This leaves a top of the table clash for the division 1 league championship in next week's final game of the season against Ohope Bluefins. The game is at Awakeri at 9am.
Awakeri Mud Dawgs lost 3 - 1 in the 11th grade. Ella Forbes was the goals scorer with Savanah Stewart and Mitchell Du Toit players of the day.
In the 9th grade, the Eastern Bay Curtains 4U Ninjas had a 5 – 0 win against the R.D. 1 Aces.
Awakeri Avengers had another loss in the top division of the 8th grade, going down 2 – 5 to Whakatane Town Sharks. Ryan Somerville and Nathan Reihana-Asquith got the goals for the Avengers and it was especially exciting as it was Nathan's first ever goal.
In the 7th grade, Awakeri Phoenix first played Saint Stars, losing 3 - 0. Aaran Dominick impressed with his attacking play. Their second game was against Allandale Midgets, a 1 – 0 win. The goal scorer was Nate Parsons who was playing well up front and attacking the ball well. Their final game was against Kawerau Sports Club Avengers, a 1 – 0 loss. Well done to Nate Parsons who was named player of the day.
Awakeri Phoenix finished their 7th grade season with three game. A 3 – 0 win against Allandale Midgets; a nil all draw with Kawerau Avengers and the same result against Kawerau Red Stags. The player of the day was Jade Mahy.
In the 6th grade Awakeri Rangers had a couple of losses. The kids played well with lots of shots just off target. Everyone shared player of the day.
