Most of Awakeri's football teams played on Saturday, before two weeks of holiday break.
In the 11th grade 1st division league leaders SLH Contracting Awakeri Warriors continued their unbeaten season against the Whakatane Titans. The first half was an even affair but an Awakeri freekick produced a penalty when a Whakatane player handled the ball in front of goal. The penalty was coolly slotted by Frank Butler. In the second half the game opened up and there were plenty of chances on goal for both teams. Ollie Fort pounced on an open ball and scored for the Warriors. The Titans got a deserved goal back very late in the game. The final score was 2 - 1 to the Warriors.
In the 11th grade 2nd division, EBOP Plant Services Awakeri Mud Dawgs went down 2 – 0 to the Ohope Seahawks. The game was very even, however Ohope took their opportunities to score and the Mud Dawgs couldn't quite finish any chances they had. Awakeri midfielders Mia Sutton and Mitchell du Toit played really well. The players of the day were Chelsy Wardlaw and Marshall Foxx who were both outstanding.
In the 9th grade, Awakeri Aces went down 5 - 1 to Kawerau. Michael Seales was player of the day, with Kaleb Grindrod the scorer.
In the 8th grade, Awakeri Panthers played Ohope and lost 7-1. Panthers played the first half really well, the girls showed heaps of guts and determination against an all boys team. Their player of the day was Tylah Bateson, who scored their one and only goal!
In the 7th grade Awakeri Phoenix's first game was against Kawerau Sports Avengers, who won 3 - 0. Their second game was against Kawerau Sports Red Stags. It was a very close game with a nil all result. Their final game was against Ohope Orca. Phoenix lost 1 - 0 due to an unlucky own goal.
The player of the day went to Tyler Wardlaw for always being there in defence.
Awakeri Magic had a good day in the 7th grade. They beat Ohope Piranhas 1 – 0; Allandale Eagles 2 – 0 and the third game was a 0 – 0 draw with Plains Pukekos. Their player of the day was Christian Smith.
Awakeri Athletic Grade 6 played two games. In the first game Awakeri showed great attacking play which resulted in three goals being scored. The game ended as a 3 - 2 victory and Awakeri showed great team work when moving the ball around. Game two was a slightly tougher game and Awakeri had to work harder to move up the pitch. With both teams fairly matched, the game ended as a 1 - 1 draw which was a fair result. The player of the day was Shae Carter for great effort and enthusiasm.
The previous week, Athletic had three strong victories. The player of the day was Joshua Spalding for having a great positive impact.
Also in the 6th grade, Awakeri Rangers played very well this weekend, which resulted in a win, a draw and a loss. Two goals were scored by Addie Tetze, and one by Blake Murray. The player of the day was Liv Brownlee.
