Some of Awakeri's younger football teams shone on Saturday. In the 8th grade Awakeri Magic continued their unbeaten season. Magic produced an excellent game against Whakatane Town Falcons, winning 6 – 0. The goals were scored by Ollie Peat (5) and Christian Smith. The player of the day went to Nate Parsons for his support work.
Awakeri Panthers drew 1 – 1 with Ohope Makos in the 9th grade. Panthers are sorting out their positional play and are able to read the game a lot better. Riley Annan was named player of the day for his excellent goal keeping. Paige Short scored the goal.
Also in the 9th grade, Awakeri Avengers had a good win, 8 – 2, against the Opotiki Magpies. Player of the day Kaleb Grindrod scored seven goals!
In the 11th grade third division, Awakeri United had quite a good game with Kawerau Sports, despite the latter winning 6 – 2. Jamie Hawkes and Addison Dodson shared player of the day honours, while Addison and Jake Laurent were the goal scorers.
Ohope Panthers were too strong for Primogrow Awakeri Ninjas in the 11th grade first division, winning 7 - 1. Player of the day Brad Yuill and Joseph Spalding were in their best form for Ninjas and Ben Peat was the scorer.
In the 13th grade, SLH Contracting Awakeri Warriors were well beaten by Whakatane Town Phoenix, 6 – 0. Bonnie-Marie Wetting-Davidson was player of the day for the Warriors.
In the 7th grade, Superior Excavation Awakeri Athletic won one of their games, and lost one. Jayden Grindrod and Wilson Carter got a goal each. Player of the day was Jayden Grindrod. Joe Ferguson also impressed with some awesome foot work.
Awakeri Phoenix played Plains Strikers in the 7th grade and won 2 – 1. Paige Horner and Jacson Heal scored the goals. In their second game, Phoenix played against Ohope Bluefins, winning 5 – 0. Jacson scored a hat-trick, Paige Horner and Addison Whiteman scored the other goals. Player of the day went to Addison Whiteman for great attacking play and always being on the ball.
