Awakeri's teams had plenty of exciting football in their games on Saturday.
In the 13th grade SLH Contracting Awakeri Warriors put up a good display against unbeaten Foxy Feet. Foxy Feet scored twice in both halves to run out the winners 4 – 0 in the end, but they had to work hard for it. Oscar Murray's tireless work in the midfield earned him player of the day for Warriors.
In the 11th grade Championship 1st division, Primogrow Awakeri Ninjas bounced back well from their loss last week to win 6 - 2 against Whakatane Hawks. Player of the day Lucien Horn-Christensen was a rock in defence for the Ninjas.
Awakeri United couldn't repeat their result from last week, when Kutarere turned up with a stronger team for the repeat match in the 11th grade 3rd division. Kutarere won 6 – 0. Lucy Jones and Kennedy Annan shared player of the day.
In the 9th grade, Awakeri's two teams Avengers and Panthers were pitted against each other. It was a very good contest. Avengers ran out the winners 4 – 0 in the end. Kaleb Grindrod scored a hat-trick and Patch Jones was the other scorer. Nathan Reihana-Asquith was player of the day, his passing was top notch. Kayla Edwards got stuck in and was named player of the day for the Panthers.
Awakeri Magic had a great game in the 8th grade against Ohope Kingfish, at Ohope. Both teams played well and while Awakeri got a head start of two goals, Ohope Kingfish quickly caught up with their scoring. It was an exciting game with both teams trying to keep the goal scoring going. The final result was Ohope Kingfish 3, Awakeri Magic 4. The Magic's goals were scored by Ollie Peat, Isla Thompson and Arran Dominick. Isla scored her very first goal of the season and played an excellent game overall - as well as being named player of the day.
In the 7th grade Junior Framework at Warren Park, Awakeri Phoenix played Awakeri Athletic in their first game. Athletic won 2 – 0. The Phoenix's second game was against Awakeri Rangers who won 2 -1. Dominic Rowland was the scorer for the Phoenix. Their player of the day went to Dylan Leech, for a huge improvement and a big kick!
Awakeri Rangers were in great form on Saturday. In their first game against Allandale Foxy Feet they drew, with Flynn Dominick scoring. Persistence in tackling from the whole team paid off. Their second game was against Awakeri Phoenix. Max Mead scored first with Jamie-Lee Nuku taking the second goal. The player of the day could have been given to the whole team, but Flynn Dominick received it.
Superior Excavation Awakeri Athletic had a brilliant two games. They won one, and drew the other. Two goals from Ash and one from Jayden. But Paige Horner received player of the day for great commitment to the ball, always being where she needed to be.
