Awakeri's football teams ended the term with some good results before the holiday break.
In the 11th grade 1st division, Primogrow Awakeri Ninjas were at home to Kawerau Sports. Brad Yuill was player of the day. He set up a number of goals with some great crosses from right wing. Sophie Growden also set up some goals with her long throw ins. Ninjas had a comfortable 8 – 2 win.
Awakeri United played Whakatane Town Firebirds in the 11th grade 3rd division. United were a goal up at half time. However, they ran out of steam, having no subs to call on in the second half. Firebirds went on to win 5 – 1. Kohen Laurent's hard work in the midfield earned him player of the day.
In the 9th grade, Awakeri Avengers were at home to Saints Swords. Avengers worked really well, supporting each other and ended up winning 3 – 0. Ryan Ashton was named player of the day for his good defensive work and team spirit.
Awakeri Panthers travelled to play Opotiki Magpies in the 9th grade. It was a really good game, Opotiki winning 2 – 0. Riley Annan was impressive in goal for Panthers and Paige Short earned player of the day with her excellent defensive skills.
Awakeri Magic played against Allandale Strikers in the 8th grade. It was not one of Magic's better games, giving the opposition plenty of chances to score - which luckily for them, they didn't! Magic also had players missing through illness, however they still did manage to win, 2 – 0. Ollie Peat was the scorer, with Eli Tootell named as player of the day for trying his best in attack and defence.
