11th August 2018

Awakeri's football teams enjoyed the great weather on Saturday and turned in a wide variety of results.
In the 13th grade, SLH Contracting Awakeri Warriors played Foxy Feet. Warriors made them work hard for their first goal, then there was a flurry of scoring. Foxy Feet won 6 – 1 in the end. Player of the day was Summer Jones, who played on bravely after being injured. Ollie Fort scored Awakeri's goal, following up on a shot from Frank Butler which deflected off the keeper.
Awakeri Ninjas played Whakatane Sharks in the 11th grade Blue division and won 7 - 1. Their player of the day was Brad Yuill, who has played brilliantly all year. He makes great runs up the right wing and is making good decisions about when to cross or to go himself to goal. Brad also gets back and helps in defence. Cody Parsons is also playing really well. His corners are beautifully directed and one was headed by Ben Peat only slightly wide of the post. The team is playing really well as a unit.
In the 11th grade White, Awakeri Panthers had a win, but sadly it was because Kutarere defaulted.
Awakeri Magic played against Kawerau Sports in what would turn out to be an exciting and eventful 9th grade game. Kawerau started the scoring in the first half with Awakeri quickly matching it. Then Awakeri managed to sneak another goal in to be one up in the first half. Unfortunately during the second half, Awakeri started to tire a bit, with only had one reserve available. During this time, Kawerau managed to score two more goals, one which flew in under bar but just out of reach of our goalie's hands. The final score was Awakeri 2, Kawerau Sports 4. Player of the day went to Aramia Hanlen for her consistent defence and play during a difficult game.
In the 8th grade, Awakeri Athletic had a draw against St Joseph's Sparks 3 – 3. Two goals were scored by Joshua Spalding and the other by Lucy Overdevest. Player of the day went to Addison Neill for her awesome defence and attack!
Awakeri Mustangs played Plains Otakiri All Stars in the 8th grade. The Mustangs won against Otakiri. The game was over by half time with the score at 6-0. A second half was played with 7 vs 5 players and then 7 vs 4 during which Otakiri managed to score 3 goals. Players of the day were Jacson Heal and Quinn Hawkes.
Awakeri Rangers had a great morning of soccer in the 6th grade, with two really good games. They lost the first game 1 - 0 and lost the second 2 – 1, but they were really good contests between both teams. Rangers put in some really good team work as well. The player of the day was Ben Overdevest, after scoring a fine goal and Braxton Semmens for his fantastic running and ball skills.
Awakeri Rovers had a good morning too in the 6th grade, unfortunately with only one game. Their player of the day was Mason Little/Patterson.
Also in the 6th grade, Awakeri Phoenix played Kawerau United first, a nil all draw. Their second game was against Ohope Dolphins. It was a 4 – 1 win. Asher Spalding scored two goals, JJ Keepa and Addison Whiteman scored one goal each. The player of the day went to JJ Keepa.
