The Awakeri Football club had great reason to celebrate the final day of football on Saturday. Awakeri Ninjas took out the EBOP 11th grade top division with an emphatic 7 – 1 victory over the previous competition leaders, Whakatane Hawks. Ninjas' team work was excellent on the day, with goalkeeper Leon Mahy and top goal scorer Ben Peat (5 goals) named joint players of the day. Others to score were Kobi Wetting (2) and Cody Parsons.
Awakeri Warriors finished off their 13th grade season with a good 4 – 2 win against St Joseph's Dragons. Player of the day Elijah Wetting scored all four goals for the Warriors.
Awakeri Panthers played a stronger and older Plains Wanderers team in the 11th grade white division, losing 6 – 0. Panthers had an enjoyable season nevertheless.
Awakeri Magic finished their 9th grade season with a bye, but very good results earned them second place in the standings.
In the 8th grade, Awakeri Athletic had an 8 - 2 loss to Allandale Strikers. It was an awesome game with some great refereeing. Awakeri's goals were scored by Ash Kelly and Joshua Spalding. The player of the day was awarded to Ash Kelly, who had an absolute stand out game!
Awakeri Mustangs wrapped up their very good season in the 8th grade with a 5 – 1 win against St Joseph's Sparks. Their players of the day were Lila McDonnell, Jade Mahy and Fergus Rowe. Mustangs sealed second place in the 8th grade.
