Awakeri Get Fresh Sharks continued their good form in the 11th
grade premier division, with a good win over Te Teko Tuna on Saturday. In a
game of two halves, Awakeri took control in the first, scoring all three of
their goals in the first 25 minutes. However the Sharks decided to sit on their
lead and allowed Te Teko back in the game with two goals. The Sharks then woke
up and were unfortunate not to score in the last ten minutes, but they were
happy to come away with a 3 - 2 win. Players of the day were Ruby and Oliver
Thompson who allowed Te Teko no chances with their solid line of defence in
the first half. Goal scorers were Jamie Findlay and Quest Tipping (2). Justin
Perkins also played well and was unlucky not to score.
O'Hagan Mortgages Awakeri Magic was well and truly beaten by a very strong and
capable Opotiki team in the 11th grade 1st division. There was some flair by
the player of the day Keely Forbes in defence, and Shannon Frost in goal, but
the rest of the first half was pretty lack-lustre. The second half was better
with some attempts at the opposition goal but none were finished off. The final
score was 9 - 0 to Opotiki.
In the 9th grade premier division, Da Silva Autos Awakeri Dragons suffered a
heavy defeat against the well organised Ohope Thistle team. Ohope's good movement
off the ball created openings which they used well. Dragons showed good attitude
throughout and fought hard to the end. Player of the day Codi Bragg made some
good runs up front for Dragons. Finn Spod did well in the midfield and Jayvin
Neupane and Emma Paine both made some good saves in their turns in goal.
Bay Milking Equipment Awakeri Incredibles were well beaten by Opotiki in the
8th grade premier division. Nathan Howard stood out for the Incredibles by doing
his job well.
In the 7th grade, Awakeri Aces had a fantastic game on Saturday against St Joseph
Dolphins. Aces won 7 - 0, with goals scored by - Ezra Young x3, Caden Laurent,
Codi Laurent, Reaf Bruce and Lilly Du Toit - Lilly was player of the day. Great
effort all round from the team! Check out photos from the game.
The 7th grade Awakeri Comets went to Kawerau and unfortunately
let in two goals in the first half, in a game where they did lots of good tackling.
There was no further score so the game ended 0 - 2. Player of the day went to
Ethan Patterson who had a great game on field in the first half and in goal
after the break. Comets are hoping to score some goals next week!
Awakeri Warriors played Kawerau Knights in the 7th grade, and lost 5 nil. The
Warriors had some close shots at goal but couldn't quite score. Noah Robinson
played well in goal, but Jack Young's excellent defending and big kicks earned
him player of day.
In the 6th grade, Awakeri Angels had another good display, dominating much of
the game against Otakiri Hawks. The Angels had a few good chances saved by the
Hawks keeper and eventually won 1 - 0. Haylee Schuler was named player of the
day.
In what can be described as an even match, the 6th grade Private Asset Management
Awakeri Jets ground out a hard fought 1 - 0 win against the Rangitaiki Rippers
on their home turf in the weekend. The Jets goal was courtesy of Kieron Butler's
well placed strike. Player of the day was awarded to Cambell Julian, for his
high work rate in the first half.
Also in the 6th grade, Awakeri Dolphins were disappointed when their Te Teko
opposition didn't show up. They ended up playing a game among themselves, with
Jack Elliott player of the day.
