Awakeri Dolphins were at their best for their last game of the season, when
they met Rangitaiki Rippers in the 6th grade. Goals from Thomas Wessells, Jack
Elliott and Ethan Forbes brought Dolphins a 3 - 0 win. Jack Elliott and Blake
Hermansen shared the player of the day award.
Also in the 6th grade, Private Asset Management Awakeri Jets had a good even
battle with Matata, winning 2 - 1. Isaac Clement's solid all round game made
him player of the day. Kaleb Muggeridge and Cambell Julian scored the goals
for Jets.
A goal in each half gave James Street a 2 - 0 win over Awakeri Warriors in the
7th grade. Warriors put together some good passing and had quite a few attacks
but couldn't get the ball in the goal. Caleb Keightley did very well in goal,
Nicole Webb showed good dribbling skills and the whole team shared the player
of the day.
The last game of the 7th grade season saw the Awakeri Comets take on Ohope Mustangs
at Awakeri. The away team challenged well, taking advantage and scoring goals
whenever Awakeri failed to clear the ball from their own area. In the second
half, the Comets came out much stronger, and after some good attempts from Kevin
Paulsen and Ethan Patterson, finally scored. Player of the day Daniel Brown
reacted quickly from a blocked shot to score his first goal. The game finished
with both coaches allowing their entire teams on the pitch at once, to play
the last 5 minutes of the game which ended 3 - 1 to the Mustangs. Once again
a great effort from the whole Comets team who have had a thoroughly enjoyable
season.
Private Asset Management Awakeri Aces and Kawerau both played well in their
7th grade match, with Kawerau taking the honours. The Aces team shared their
final player of the day award.
In the 8th grade premier division, Bay Milking Equipment Awakeri Incredibles
lost against the Kawerau Crusaders 6 - 0. The player of the day was Zoe Bennet
for her can do attitude, she never stopped trying.
Da Silva Autos Awakeri Dragons held their shape well in their 9th grade premier
division game with Ohope Thistle. Thistle had to work hard to eventually gain
a 5 - 0 win. Finn Spod earned player of the day with some great work in the
centre midfield. Lachlan Butler had a good game in goal too.
The 11th grade 1st division O'Hagan's Awakeri Magic had a slow start in their
game against Matata. There were a few chances to score but they weren't taken
advantage of. By half time Magic was 3 - 0 down, however in the second half
the Magic put one away and were showing good promise of scoring more. Unfortunately
this was not meant to be, with Matata scoring just on full time. Player of the
day went to Felicity Klein Ovink for very fast running, tackling and brilliant
defensive work. The final score was 4 - 1 to Matata.
