Awakeri Wild Cats finished their 8th grade 1st division season on a high note with a good win over Otakiri, 4 - 1. Otakiri made the Performance Zone Wild Cats work hard for their win. The Wild Cats scored three goals in the last ten minutes. Up until then it had been a tight arm wrestle. Emily Julian was proud to score her first hat trick. Sarah Sheaff scored the other goal. Player of the day was Renske Brabant who did well in goal and worked hard in the field.
The Bay Milking Equipment Awakeri Incredibles played Te Teko Taniwha and lost 4 - 0 in the 8th grade premier division. All four goals were scored in the first half, but in the second half Caleb Marshall saved every single goal. Even when he went to save a high ball that hit the goal post, causing the goal to crumble around him, he was determined not to let that ball get past him! Needless to say Caleb was deservedly player of the day.
In the 9th grade premier division Da Silva Autos Awakeri Dragons had a good tussle with Saints Go Girls, which ended in a 0 - 0 draw. The game was fast and furious making for plenty of excitement for the spectators. Finn Spod earned player of the day with some great work and passing in the midfield.
O'Hagan Mortgages Awakeri Magic had a great game in the 11th grade 1st division at Opotiki. Opotiki got the lead midway through the first half, by the ball getting a funny bounce off a defender and the keeper and then slotted away. About ten minutes later, a nice set of passing by Katie White and Shelby Raston, gave Nicole Theobald the chance for a run past the defence to level the score. In the second half Opotiki put together some nice phases of play. Magic's defence was up to the task for most of the time, however two more goals were put away to give Opotiki a 3 - 1 win. Player of the day went to the whole Magic team with every one giving it a hundred per cent.
