Awakeri Get Fresh Sharks continued their good form with a good win over the Whakatane Wolves in the 11th grade premier division on Saturday. Awakeri took control of the game in the second half to take the game 3 - 0. The goal scorers were Quest Tipping, Daniel Gow and Chistian Van der Gulik, who was also player of the day. Nicole Theobald also played well for Sharks.
In the 11th grade 1st division, O'Hagan Mortgages Awakeri Magic had an exciting game against Otakiri. Magic did well in the first half, having several opportunities to score a goal or two. However strong defence and good keeping kept the ball from going into the net. After the first half the Magic ended up one goal down. In the second half Otakiri ran away with it and the game ended with Awakeri losing 4 - 0. Liam Wilkinson, Keely Forbes, Felicity Klein Ovink, and Shannon Frost played really well. Player of the day went to Katie Whyte for her gutsy play and determination.
Bay Milking Equipment Awakeri Incredibles were shocked by two early Kawerau goals in their 8th grade premier fixture. But Incredibles got their game going and did well especially in the second half. Player of the day Korben Wilson scored the goal in a 4 - 1 loss.
In the 7th grade, Awakeri Warriors played Saints Crusaders. Excellent defence from the Warriors saw the game nil all at halftime, however they couldn't keep it going and Saints won 3 - 0. Logan Calder stopped it being higher with some good saves in goal. Nicole Webb led the way on attack and was named player of day, with Noah Robinson and Zalea Tipping close behind.
Private Asset Management Awakeri Aces beat Whakatane Zappers by default in the 7th grade.
The Awakeri Comets had a tough game against James Street in the 7th grade and, despite battling hard, came out losing. Player of the day was Aleisha Boyce who did some great passing and tackling. Ethan Patterson once again proved his goal scoring abilities by netting Comets' only goal.
The Awakeri Angels had another great 6th grade game, winning 2 - 0 against James Street. The hard working Sadie van Beekhuizen scored another brace. Juliet Findlay was named player of the day, playing well in first half and making some good saves in the second half as keeper. Hayley Schuler also played very well with smart positional play.
Also in the 6th grade, Awakeri Dolphins played Saints Kiwis and lost 2 - 1. Dolphins played an impressive non - stop running game with no subs. Player of the day was awarded to Beth Wilson for her impressive running and goal keeping skills. Jack Elliot scored his first goal. Ethan Forbes, Liam White and Blake Hermansen played well showing great determination.
Private Asset Management Awakeri Jets had their first loss of the season, going down 2 - 0 to Te Teko Korimako in the 6th grade. Isaac Clement put in a solid effort, giving his all in both defence and attack. First time player Jamie Julian was named player of the day for his great enthusiasm.
