In the 11th grade premier division the Awakeri Get Fresh Sharks came out firing after their bye, winning their game 4 - 1.In a fast paced game, the Sharks outclassed the Whakatane Wolves with their intelligent passing and determined defence. The Wolves tried hard but couldn't prevent the constant attacks on their goal. Goal scorers for the Sharks were Justin Perkins and another fine hat-trick to Quest Tipping. One of Quest's goals, a freekick just outside the box, was a real gem, soaring into the top left hand corner of the goal. The player of the day was awarded to Sam 'Smiley' Cook, who ran hard all day. Ruby Thompson and Dillon Murray also played well, rock solid in defence.
The Da Silva Autos Awakeri Dragons played their best game this season with a very well
earned 3 - 3 draw with Te Teko Makos in the 9th grade premier. Sterling goal keeping from Lachlan Butler, backed by big kicking defenders Emma Paine and player of the day Ryan Magee, provided steady ball to the forwards. The scorers were Cody Bragg (2) and Finn Spod. They combined well with the hard tackling Cody Dakin. No subs meant no rests against the formidable Mako team, who came back hard each time.
Bay Milking Awakeri Incredibles had a tough 8th grade premier division game against Ohope Raiders. They equalised early on with the Raiders, with Korben Wilson scoring the goal. However, Ohope went on to gain a comfortable win. Matthys Wessels got the player of the day for being a solid defender.
In the 8th grade 1st division, Performance Zone Awakeri Wild Cats had another good win, on the back of a good game plan. Wild Cats beat Whakatane 4 - 1. Sarah Sheaff and Emily Julian played strongly, scoring two goals each. Wild Cats' player of the day was Chrystal Marriner. Tara van Beekhuizen and Taryn Forbes held their positions well, giving the team structure and Sophie Lawrence is becoming a very good goalie.
Awakeri Warriors played K-Town Cruisers in the 7th grade, and lost 4 - 0. Ryan Mapu had a good game in goal for the Warriors. Nicole Webb also had a good game in goal and attacked well on the field, earning her player of the day,
Awakeri Angels had a sleepy start against Ohope Diamonds in the 6th grade, to find themselves 3 - 0 down at half time. The Angels competed better in the second half and Alex Robbie played well in goal to ensure they didn't concede any further goals. Player of the day Sadie van Beekhuizen created some chances for the Angels, and her one hundred per cent effort set a good example to her team mates. Lucy Knott played very well, showing enthusiasm and good positional thinking.
Also in the 6th grade, Awakeri Dolphins won against Kawerau Teenie Neenies 2 - 0.
The Dolphins played an impressive away game. Beth Wilson and Thomas Wessells showed great ball skills throughout the whole game. Cody Hutchings was strong in defence and Liam White had a great game as goalie. Regan Henderson and Ethan Forbes scored one goal each, with Regan Henderson named player of the day for his determination and skills.
Awakeri Jets had a hard battle against Taneatua Tuatara in the 6th grade. Jets went down 6 - 0, however, it was a good effort and some awesome teamwork was displayed. Player of the day was awarded to Oliver Forsyth, for some fantastic saves in goal in the second half. Jamie Julian and Keiron Butler also had strong games.
