The highlight of Awakeri's soccer games on Saturday was the match up between their two 9th grade 1st division teams. Awakeri Wild Cats and HTL Spreading Awakeri Phoenix both played their hearts out before a noisy sideline of spectators. The defensive work from both teams was outstanding. The deadlock was broken late in the 2nd half when Korben Wilson set up Liam McCormick to score a nice goal to grab the win for the Phoenix. The Wildcats player of the day went to Emily Robbie who had her first game of the season and contributed well. Tara van Beekhuizen's determined work in defence saw her named player of the day for the Phoenix. The sideline banter from parents was an added bonus to a fun competitive morning of soccer.

Shannon Frost once again had a strong game in goal.
