Good things are worth waiting for! Da Silva Autos Awakeri Aces had the game of their season this week with their first 'non-loss' in the 8th grade premier division. Aces had most of the attack in the first half and were unlucky to be 1 - 0 down to Ohope Lightning at half time. In the second half Aces continued to attack and eventually a fast long shot from Cambell Forsyth saw the score even. The entire team put in 100 per cent effort and the game ended one all, to the delight of the team and their supporters. Tayla Jones was awarded player of the day for her solid and consistent defending.

Also in the 8th grade premiers, Awakeri Store Comets had two games against opponents from Ohope this week. In the middle of the week they played a catch up game against Ohope Lightning. Despite applying all the pressure in the first half, Comets found themselves 1 - 0 down at half-time. In the second half, the Comets came out blazing, drawing some great saves from the Ohope keeper before Kevin Paulsen was rewarded for his strong running with two goals, which earned him player of the day. Comets denied Ohope any clear chances and won the game 2-1. The weekend game was away to Ohope Gunners, and again the Comets team work was top notch. Player of the day Nicole Webb was brilliant in goal and made several great saves. However, Comets were unable to score any of the chances they created and ended up losing 3 - 0.

Awakeri Cheetah Girlz attacked strongly against St Josephs in the 8th grade 1st division, with good runs from Brodie Nathan and Lucy Knott. Unfortunately things didn't go their way but excellent goalkeeping from Aleisha Boyce and Taylor Jones kept them in the game. Saints won the game 3 - 0.

It was always going to be an epic battle when the two Awakeri 9th grade teams took the field. The scene had been set with a win to the HTL Spreading Awakeri Phoenix earlier in the year followed by a draw, now the Wildcats were determined to get the win. The first half was a tight tussle. The Phoenix had plenty of attacks, but Emily Julian scored for the Wildcats on the stroke of halftime. The second half saw the Wildcats dominate with Sarah Sheaff, Monique Ruiter and Taryn Forbes causing havoc for the Phoenix defence. This resulted in Sarah scoring two goals and earning player of the day. Emily Robbie and Shayna Penberth played their best games of the season being very busy and making many tackles. Linette Lengeek and Jenae Brownless provided a fortress like defence as usual. Ryan Magee was named the Phoenix's player of the day; he played his heart out all day in defence. The finals score was Wildcats 3 Phoenix 0.

In the 11th grade premier division Get Fresh Awakeri Dragons had a tough game against Whakatane Tricky Chicks. Lauren Baxter had another good game for the Dragons, and was named player of the day. Jamie Findlay did well in his half in goal, as did midfielder Finn Spod. Jaspreet Dharmet attacked well and had some shots saved. Tricky Chicks won the game 8 - 0.

The Murphy Brothers Awakeri Mud Dawgs played the Whakatane Dolphins in the 11th grade 1st division on Saturday, The game was once again very entertaining for the spectators and both teams played some outstanding soccer. The Dawgs created many chances but couldn't quite finish them off, so the game resulted in a 0 - 0 draw. Player of the day went to Ethan Robertshaw who had a good all round game; Georgia Leonard and Keely Forbes were solid as ever in defence.

13th grade Renshaw Jewellers Awakeri Sharks went down 10 - 2 against Ohope Stealth. Dylan Hoefsloot and Daniel Perkinson were the scorers, while Abbey Coventry was named player of the day for her stirling work in defence.

In the 6th grade, Mainstream Engineering Awakeri Hotshots played an awesome game against Allandale Galaxy, only losing 2-0. Mia Sutton was player of the day for her amazing skills as goalie.

Awakeri Rascals opponents did not turn up for their 6th grade game, so the Rascals enjoyed playing their parents and winning 3 - 2.

Awakeri Hotcars beat Kawerau Strikers 1 - 0 in a close 6th grade game. Jamie Julian was the scorer and Ella Forbes was awarded player of the day for her work effort. Bonnie Marie Wetting had another great game in goal too.

Awakeri Aces had a fun and successful day in the 7th grade tournament at Opotiki. Aces won four games and then had a draw with Allandale Galaxy.
