Awakeri Store Comets getting to the final of the 8th grade premier tournament held at Awakeri on Saturday was the stand out performance of the club's teams. With two wins and a draw, Comets surprised some other teams by winning their pool and meeting Kawerau Cruisers in the final. Midway through the second half Cruisers scored, and then had their goalie to thanks when he saved a penalty to give them a 1 - 0 win. Ethan Patterson, Ben White and Kevin Paulsen stood out for Comets.
Da Silva Autos Awakeri Aces also competed well at the tournament. During pool play they also met league leaders Kawerau Cruisers, and were unlucky not to hold them to a draw. Cruisers scored very late in the match. Stand outs for Aces were Codi and Caden Laurent and Campbell Forsyth.
In the 8th grade 1st division, Awakeri Cheetah Girlz played a solid game against Paroa with a good early goal by player of the day Olivia Sheaff. Awakeri Aces won 3 - 2 against Kawerau Red Dragons in the 7th grade. Regan Henderson was named player of the day. He made some great runs forward and scored a stunning goal.
Also in the 7th grade, Awakeri All Stars lost against Kawerau Raiders 2 - 5. Player of the day went to Kaleb Muggeridge for his great determination and scoring a goal. Cody Hutchings scored the other goal. The All Stars tried very hard throughout the entire game.

Maiya Rangiaho had an outstanding game playing out of position too.
In the 11th grade premier division Get Fresh Awakeri Dragons had an uphill battle against Kawerau Gunners. Isaiah Davidson did well in centre defence and was named player of the day. Cody Bragg had a good half in goal, and Shannon Frost did well at left full back. Kawerau won 7 - 0.
Murphy Brothers Awakeri Mud Dawgs never really fired in their 11th grade 1st division game against K Town Chiefs. Georgia Leonard did very well in centre defence, earning player of the day. Taylor Harte and Jack Du Toit put in some good attacking raids too. The Chiefs won the game 4 - 1.
HTL Spreading Awakeri Phoenix created lots of opportunities against Otakiri in the 9th grade 1st division. A Liam McCormick goal was their only reward. Caleb Marshall's good saves in goal saw him named player of the day.
Awakeri Wild Cats played very well in their 9th grade game against Whakatane Panthers. Every one held their positions well, giving the team a lot of structure. There was a lot of urgency and our practice on getting to the ball first and being strong showed today. Emily Julian and Taryn Forbes were the goal scorers in a 2 - 0 win for Wild Cats. This was Taryn's first ever goal and it shouldn't be her last, as she is improving all the time. Monique Ruiter, Emily Robbie, Shayna Penberth and Maci Bateson all had busy games. Sophie Lawrence was rock solid in defence. The player of the day was Maci Bateson, who had some good touches and showed good positional awareness.
