President's report 2007
President's report 2007
In the 2007 season, Awakeri fielded 13 teams in the EBOP leagues, in the following
grades: 6th (3), 7th (2), 8th (2), 9th, 11th (2), 13th (2) and 15th. It was
pleasing to have so many players involved, and to have a 15th grade team again.
The club is grateful to its sponsors: Performance Zone, Jim's Saddlery, Galatea
Vets, CJ McIndoe Builders, Private Asset Management, and Proactive Chairs.
In the 2007 season there were many highlights for the Awakeri Soccer Club. These
include:
Kyla Kirkpatrick getting a hat-trick in a 7th grade game; Jayden Haddock scoring
direct from a corner, and with a 20m overhead kick! Hat-tricks to Caleb Carter,
Jaiden Ibbetson (2), Nikoli Christensen (2), Jayden Haddock (3), Sam Burgess
and Ben Fretwell.
The 15th grade winning their first game for years, 2 - 1 at Opotiki. Opposition
coaches ringing up Stan McKeown asking him if his team had really won!
The 13th grade Dragons drawing 6 - 6 with Whakatane Rangers, 13th grade Aces
drawing 2 - 2 with champions Opotiki to ruin their perfect season. Aces finished
2nd.
Of course the David Beckham visit to Wellington was a highlight for many, and
a number of Awakeri players went to down watch.
Awakeri had 11 BBOP rep players in 2007: (8th gr) Daniel Perkinson; (9th gr)
Nikoli Christensen, Tiaan Brownless; (10th gr) Richard Hikipene; (11th gr) Sam
McPherson, Rory McGregor, Daniel Reeves; (12th gr) Ben Fretwell; (13th gr) Jayden
Haddock, Jaiden Ibbetson, Guy Kamphorst.
I would like to thank the teams' coaches: Jayne Wood, Christian
