Awakeri Soccer Club.

President's report 2017

In the 2016 season, Awakeri fielded 13 teams in the EBOP leagues, in the following grades: 6th (3), 7th (2), 8th (2), 9th (2), 11th (3) and 13th (1). We had 124 players registered last year, our most ever.
The club is grateful to its sponsors: R.D. 1, SLH Contracting, Private Asset Management, Eastern Bay Curtains 4U & EBOP Plant Services.

In the 2016 season there were many highlights for the Awakeri Soccer Club. These include:
Ollie Fort doing a bicycle kick in a game
The 8th grade Panthers all girls team and the 11th grade Mud Dawgs hanging in there and finally getting their first wins of the season in August
Quite a lot of players scoring hat-tricks: Patrick Jones, Sam East, Elijah Wetting-Davidson, Rhys Robertson, Jon Tiwha-Smith, Ben Peat, Kobi Wetting-Davidson, Jacson Heal, Ben Davey-Emms, Alex Whiteman, Lucien Horn-Christensen, Joshua Spalding, Milan Laurent, and probably others!
Pete Olifiers' fantastic photos on his facebook page
The 11th grade Warriors beating Ohope 1 – 0 to be crowned the champions in the final game of the season, Katie Mahy's goalkeeping in that game
Cam Peat's 9th grade team only losing one game all season (it's non-competitive, so no champions!), and John White's 13th grade team coming 3rd in their league

Disappointments included one of the eleventh grade teams having to withdraw early in the season after some players pulled out.
The EBOP district reps not fielding teams in some age groups. Our rep numbers went from 21 in 2015 to 8 last year

Awakeri had 8 EBOP rep players in 2016:- 9th gr: Brad Yuill, Jon Tiwha-Smith; 10th gr: Ollie Fort; 11th gr: Elijah Wetting-Davidson, Frank Butler, Sam East, Kalib Schuler; 12th gr girls: Katie Mahy.

I would like to thank our coaches: Arthur Dominick, Ross Rowe, Dean Butterworth, Andrea Whiteman, Christine Best, Nic Laurent & Mike Johnstone, Leanne Somerville & Greg Ashton, Aime Griffiths, Cam Peat & Jason Yuill, Christian Wetting & Chris Butler, Wayne Lawrence & Neil Bragg, L.J. Du Toit, John White & Kate Robbie. We are very lucky that so many people volunteer to do this job. It isn't always easy!

The sportsmanship trophies for the season went to:
Jacson Heal (6th), Fergus Rowe (6th), Addie Tetze (6th), Isla Thompson (7th), Christian Smith (7th), Rhianna Rowe (8th), Ryan Ashton (8th), Mason Nurkka (9th), Lily Muggeridge (9th), Mia Sutton (11th), Elijah Wetting-Davidson (11th), Tayla Jones (13th).

Sadly this year we lose several hard working people from the club. John White, who has coached teams for us since our 2010 and our current vice president ; LJ Du Toit, who has coached teams since 2006 and has also been vice president; Louise Paulsen, who has been our secretary since 2012 and Kate Robbie, who has coached teams since 2010 and been our treasurer for the last four years. A massive thank you to John, LJ, Louise and Kate.
